Nikolai Petrovich Smirnov was a Ukrainian Soviet theater director and actor, born in Kharkiv in 1912 and passed away in Donetsk in 1963. He became a People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1954. After graduating from the Kharkiv Musical and Dramatic Institute in 1933, he worked at the Donetsk Musical and Dramatic Theater. Some of his notable roles included Levshin in 'Enemies' by M. Gorky and Talanov in 'The Invasion' by L. Leonov. His directorial works included 'Limerovna', 'Khozain', and Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night'.
