Major Mohamed Safwat El-Zayyat was an Egyptian military researcher and former officer born on February 27, 1946, in Cairo. He graduated from the Military Technical College in 1968 and participated in the War of Attrition and the 1973 War of Liberation. He became known for his analytical commentary on military affairs on Al Jazeera, writing about military and strategic matters. His prominence grew after the 2006 Lebanon War and the Gaza War (2008–2009), where he provided objective military analyses of the conflicts in Libya and Syria during the Arab Spring.
