Muhammad Kamal al-Din bin Muhammad Ali al-Saninary was a prominent leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and the husband of Amina Qutb, sister of the famed Islamic thinker Sayyid Qutb. Born in Cairo on March 11, 1918, he was raised in a well-off family and attended civil schools, completing his primary and secondary education. Although he worked for the Ministry of Health after high school, he planned to study pharmacy in the USA, which he later abandoned upon advice from a religious scholar.
