Vasil Ivanov Zaharieff was a Bulgarian physicist and meteorologist. He was the first Bulgarian researcher to participate in an Antarctic expedition, taking part throughout the entire duration of the 13th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition (1967 – 1969). Because of this, he is referred to by international scientists as the 'first Bulgarian polar explorer.'
