Born on March 8, 1928, in Mitrovtsi, Montana Province, he graduated from the Higher Agricultural Institute in Sofia in 1952. Gotsov worked at the Dobrich Agricultural Institute, where he specialized in hybrid wheat genetics and selection. He published over 100 scientific papers and served in multiple leadership roles at the Institute, significantly contributing to applied genetics in Bulgaria. He was the first chairman of the Dobrich branch of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria.
