Стоян Петров Василев was a Bulgarian musicologist born in Sofia in 1916. He graduated from the State Music Academy in 1943 and then worked at Sofia Radio and the Committee for Science, Art, and Culture, now the Ministry of Culture. He prepared his dissertation at the conservatory in Moscow from 1949 to 1953. After returning to Bulgaria, he briefly worked in the Ministry of Culture and served as vice-rector of the conservatory from 1954 to 1956, where he taught the history of Bulgarian and Russian classical music until his death in 1994.
