Harald Landmark Marø was a Norwegian sea captain and polar skipper, born on March 7, 1917, in Brandal, Norway, and passed away on September 3, 2022, in Halifax, Canada. He served as the captain of the Canadian icebreaker Theron for 26 years and led it during the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1955. Marø had early experiences in whaling and expeditions to Greenland and Svalbard and was a prisoner of war during WWII. After emigrating to Canada in 1949, he continued his maritime career, and features in Antarctic geography are named in his honor.
