He played primarily as an infielder and began his management career at his alma mater Daegu High School. Kang was known for his innovative coaching techniques, including introducing weight training and strategic game changes, leading his teams to significant victories in national high school tournaments. He managed various teams, notably Cheongbo Pintos and OB Bears, and contributed to the sport as a journalist and commentator until his death on December 12, 2021.
