He graduated from the Department of Applied Arts at Seoul National University and earned a master's in design from UCLA and a Ph.D. in architectural engineering from Korea University. He has held academic positions at Dongduk Women's University and Ewha Womans University, served as the Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University, and published 43 books on design. He has been involved in public design initiatives and has held various leadership roles in design organizations.
