He began his career as an aide to then-Member of Parliament Lee Myung-bak in 1997 and later served as the Chief Secretary of the Presidential Office under the Office of the President. Due to his long tenure, he is often referred to as the 'eternal secretary.' However, in 2012, he was indicted for corruption involving bribery related to a savings bank and was sentenced to a prison term in 2013 after dropping his appeal.
