Varnakulasingham Murugathasan (December 2, 1982 - February 12, 2009) was a Tamil activist who self-immolated in front of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on February 12, 2009, to raise awareness of the genocide against the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. He left behind a written statement titled 'My earnest plea on behalf of the Tamil nation to the world community.' He was born in Thunai, Jaffna District, Sri Lanka, and had been living in London before his death.
