Hwang Young-sik (November 6, 1926 – April 23, 2022) was a South Korean military officer and politician. He served as the 24th Chief of Staff of the Army and was the chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection in South Korea. Born in Yeongju, he joined the Army Academy in 1950 and took part in pivotal moments in South Korea's military history, including the Gwangju Democratization Movement, which he oversaw violently. Despite receiving an 8-year prison sentence in 1997 for his role in these events, he was pardoned later that year.
