M.H.M. Shams (March 17, 1940 - July 15, 2002) was a notable Sri Lankan journalist, poet, short story writer, and novelist. He was born to Muhammad Hameem and Pathima Rasina in the village of Thikkavala in Sri Lanka's Matara District. Shams began writing in the late 1950s and gained prominence with his 'Concrete' poetry. He served as a Tamil teacher in various schools and worked as the editor of the labor magazine 'Teacher's Voice'. He received several literary and peace awards, contributing to literature through various pseudonyms.
