He earned a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree in 1967 and became a professor in 1970. He served as the head of the surgery clinic at the Central Research Laboratory of the Fourth Main Administration of the Ministry of Health of the USSR from 1968 to 1970. He led the emergency surgery department at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Care from 1970 to 1980 and focused on prevention and treatment of purulent complications in surgery until 2010. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1984 and recognized as an Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation.
