Vasyl Matviyovych Ostrovyi was a Ukrainian photographer born on March 23, 1930, in the Shevchenko hamlet. A member of the National Union of Photographers of Ukraine, he became a state scholarship holder in photography. He ran many personal exhibitions and led the Kyiv photo club for 26 years. Ostrovyi worked as a construction engineer until 1991 and then served as a senior methodologist at the Ukrainian Center for Cultural Studies. He passed away on August 23, 2013, and his work has been recognized in various national and international exhibitions.
