Vasiliy Alexeyevich Shipilov was a Soviet military pilot born on February 13, 1908, in Upper Karachan, Voronezh Governorate. He served as a commander of a special purpose aviation group during World War II, joining the long-range aviation forces in December 1944, part of the 18th Air Army. Shipilov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on June 29, 1945, for his bravery and skill in bombarding enemy targets. He passed away on May 22, 1987, in Vnukovo, Moscow Oblast.
