Barbu Dănescu was a Romanian politician, notable for being the first mayor of Constanța following the fall of communism in Romania. He also served as the first president of the Provisional National Union Council of Constanța. Tragically, he died on July 9, 2013, while heroically saving two children from drowning, sacrificing his own life in the process.
