Valery Petrovich Kukov (born January 30, 1953) is a Russian colonel and a veteran of the Afghan war, the Ossetian-Ingush interethnic conflict, and the First and Second Chechen Wars. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation in 1996. Kukov served as the commander of the 239th Guards separate reconnaissance motor rifle battalion in the 58th Army of the North Caucasian Military District. He is now retired and works as the general director of 'Combat', a military uniform manufacturing company, and is a deputy in the Parliament of North Ossetia-Alania.
