Yevgeny Alekseyevich Vanin (October 28, 1947 – April 7, 1989) was a Soviet submariner and Captain 1st rank. He served in the Soviet Navy, notably as the commander of the crew of the nuclear submarine K-278 Komsomolets of Project 685. Vanin graduated from the N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy in 1972 and served on submarines from 1970. He died during the sinking of K-278 in the Norwegian Sea on April 7, 1989.
