He served in the Red Army from August 1942, participating in World War II with the 31st Tank Brigade. Kashkin played key roles as a loader, radio operator, and T-34 tank driver, taking part in significant battles without sustaining injuries. He received multiple awards for his bravery, including three Orders of Glory. After demobilization in 1945, he lived and worked in Kamensk-Uralsky, Sverdlovsk Oblast.
