He is a professor at the Department of Ukrainian Literature at Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko. A student of professors Leonila Mishchenko and Ivan Denisiyuk, he has also worked as a lecturer in Russian language for international students. Korniychuk has lived in Guinea and advocates for switching the Ukrainian language from Cyrillic to a Latin graphic system.
