فریده آرمان was a communist political activist committed to issues like women's rights, refugee rights, and opposition to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Before her death, she directed the Boom project in Malmö, Sweden, assisting children who faced domestic violence. In 2013, she protested against women's rights violations in Iran by participating in a nude demonstration with FEMEN members. She was married to political prisoner Mahdi Mirshahzadeh, who was executed, and her second husband, Gholam Keshavarz, was a leading figure of the Iranian Communist Party and was assassinated.
