Salm Hussein Al-Amir was born in Souq Al-Shuyukh, Dhi Qar Governorate, in early February 1923. As a child, he learned and memorized poetry and melody from records brought by his elder brother Abdul Munim Hussein, who returned to their city after graduating from the Teacher's House in Baghdad in the summer of 1927. He passed away on August 30, 2015, in a hospital in Belgium.
