Vazgen Sarukhanyan was an Armenian-Soviet surgeon born on January 10, 1910, in Nor Bayazet, Russian Empire. He became a prominent medical doctor, earning his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree in 1956 and becoming a professor in 1958. Sarukhanyan was recognized as a Distinguished Figure in Science of the Armenian SSR in 1964 and was a member of the Communist Party starting in 1938. He also participated in the Great Patriotic War. He was the father of surgeon Hovhannes Sarukhanyan.
