Christian Funke is a German violinist born on April 18, 1949, in Dresden. He graduated from the Dresden Academy of Music in 1966 and later studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Igor Bezrodny. Since 1972, he has served as the concertmaster of the Saxon State Orchestra and, from 1979, of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. Funke has led the Leipzig Bach Orchestra as a conductor and concertmaster since 1987 and has been a professor at the Weimar Academy of Music since 1986. He has recorded Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto and various chamber works.
