He was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1990. Mitropolsky contributed to the development of the BESM-6 computer, the AS-6 data processing system, and was the first deputy chief designer of the supercomputer system Elektronika SS BIS-1. His research focused on the architecture and design methods for high-performance computing systems, influencing the field of multi-architecture computing.
