Valery Ivanovich Salygin is a Soviet and Russian academic and educator in the field of energy, born on December 14, 1938, in Dnepropetrovsk. He earned a Doctor of Technical Sciences degree in 1973 and is a professor. He serves as the director of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO. Salygin became a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1991 and has received the State Prize of the USSR in 1989 and the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1995. He was appointed as a Class I Advisor in 2003.
