Michaił Fiodorowicz Szostakowski (1905-1983) was a Soviet chemist and inventor known for synthesizing vinyl butyl ether polymer, also called Szostakowski's balm. He trained under renowned professor Aleksey Favorsky and worked at the Leningrad Institute of Organic Chemistry. Szostakowski earned his doctoral degree in 1944 and led the newly formed Siberian Branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Irkutsk until 1971. His research focused on vinyl compounds, resins, and organosilicon compounds, significantly contributing to organochemistry.
