He graduated from KazNU in 1967 and worked at 'Leninshil Jas' newspaper from 1967 to 1977, 'Bilim zhane Enbek' journal, and held various editorial roles at 'Zhalyn' almanac and the Kazakh Soviet Encyclopedia. He became the chief editor of 'Sanat' publishing house and has been the chief editor of 'Atamura' publishing house since 1995. His first stories were published in 1968.
