Dmitry Georgievich Sokolov was a prominent Russian engineer and designer born on January 14, 1921, in Velizh. After graduating from the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute in 1947, he worked on various naval projects, including destroyers and research vessels. He played a key role at the Central Design Bureau 'Baltsudoproekt', where he supervised the design and construction of several classes of ships, including measuring points and tankers. He was awarded the USSR State Prize in 1985 for his contributions to ship measurement points.
