Iván Dimitrov Chobanov is a Bulgarian officer and Major General. He was born on February 6, 1951, in Yambol and graduated in sociology from Sofia University in 1975. He worked initially as a sociologist before joining the State Security on February 5, 1979. He later served as an advisor on security issues to President Zhelyu Zhelev and held various roles in the Ministry of Interior, including Director of the National Security Directorate. Chobanov was awarded the rank of Major General on February 18, 2002, and Lieutenant General on September 21, 2005.
