Petar Vasilev Vasilev was a Bulgarian officer and Major General born on February 1, 1951. After graduating in law from Sofia University in 1972, he joined the prison system in 1976 and held various positions including deputy chief of Sofia prison and prosecutor. He was appointed as the chief director of the General Directorate for the Execution of Punishments in 2001. A professor of criminal law and criminology, he advocated for humane prison conditions and supported the establishment of Bulgaria's first private prison. He passed away on February 15, 2016, in Sofia.
