Vitaliy Mykhailovych Kostenko was a senior soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, born on January 4, 1971, in Pashkivka, Kyiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. He participated in the war in Eastern Ukraine and served as a squad commander in the 12th Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion, 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, with the call sign 'Shaman'. Kostenko was killed on August 17, 2016, in Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, during a mortar attack. He was posthumously awarded the Order 'For Courage' of the third degree. He is buried in his hometown.
