Samuil Davidovich Glukhovsky (1911–1995) was a Soviet journalist, writer, and playwright born in Rechytsa, Belarus. A Jewish family raised him, and he had a keen interest in literature from a young age. After failing to enroll in a literary institute due to age, he worked as a mechanic and later participated in the construction of an automobile factory in Mongolia. He served as a war correspondent during World War II and won several military awards. He became a member of the Soviet Writers' Union in 1958 and was a laureate of various literary prizes.
