Yakov Davydovich Kirschenblat (1912-1980) was a prominent Soviet biologist known for his work in endocrinology, physiology, entomology, zoology, and parasitology. He was the first to describe a group of pheromone-like substances emitted by insects for communication called telergons. Kirschenblat described several new species of beetles, mites, and worms, and made significant contributions to the taxonomy of parasitic tapeworms, helminthology, and coleopterology. He developed one of the first early pregnancy tests and served as a professor at Chernivtsi Medical Institute.
