Sergey Sergeyevich Lappo (March 27, 1938 – January 5, 2006) was a Soviet and Russian oceanographer and educator. He earned the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in 1981 and became a professor in 1987, later becoming a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2000. Lappo was a significant figure in physical oceanography and ocean-atmosphere interaction, publishing around 200 scientific works, including five monographs. He served as the director of the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology from 1995 to 2006.
