Alexander Yakovlevich Oparin was a Soviet major and internationalist warrior born on February 28, 1948, in Prokhoryata, Kirov Oblast. He served as the political deputy commander of the 191st separate motorized rifle regiment of the 40th army. Oparin was killed in action during a mission in the Panjshir Valley of Afghanistan on May 17, 1982. In recognition of his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin and the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
