Dos Zhurmakanbetovich Sarbasov is a Kazakh-American biologist born in 1970 in Almaty. He is known as one of the pioneers in discovering the role of the protein mTOR in cell growth, proliferation, mRNA transcription, and protein biosynthesis. He graduated from the biology faculty of Kazakh State University in 1991 and earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1997. Since 2006, he has been an associate professor at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Oncology at UTHealth.
