Colin James Apelt is an Australian civil engineer and educator, born on April 3, 1931, in Brisbane, Queensland. He co-invented a culvert design that minimizes energy loss, alongside Gordon R. MacKee. Apelt contributed to the field of numerical methods in physics through his co-authored book 'Numerical Calculations of Fields in Engineering and Physics' in 1961 with A. Thom. Over his career, he has supervised 15 PhD students, published 90 peer-reviewed articles, 24 technical reports, produced 2 engineering films, and authored 31 non-reviewed papers and reports.
