Yaroslav Dovgopoloy is a Ukrainian translator and scholar. He was born in Innsbruck, Austria, to a family of builders. In 1956, his family moved to the Netherlands, where they settled in Venlo. In 1960, they repatriated to Ukraine and settled in Ternopil. Dovgopoloy graduated from Ternopil High School No. 6 in 1966 and then studied German philology at Lviv University. He worked as a German language teacher in Krakovets and later at the Lviv Polytechnic Institute. In 1982, he began his postgraduate studies at Leningrad State University, where he earned his doctorate in philology in 1986. From 1988 to 2000, he was head of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Lviv Forestry Institute. In 2000, he became a member of the International Association of Dutch Language Scholars and was a professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn until 2016. He is known for his translations of Dutch literature into Ukrainian, and he has also written extensively on Dutch language and literature.
