He has previously held positions such as the director of the Northwest Institute of Nonferrous Metal Research and the president of the Chinese Materials Research Society. Zhou has also served as the chair of the Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Currently, he is the honorary director of the Northwest Institute of Nonferrous Metal Research and the head of the New Materials Research Institute at Nanjing University of Technology.
