Yevhen Mykolaiovych Khomenko, known as 'Podhon', was a gunner in the howitzer division of the Special Operations Forces regiment 'Azov'. He joined the regiment at the age of 19 in November 2016. Khomenko suffered a severe shrapnel wound to the head due to a shell explosion in Pavlopil. He was transported in a coma to Mechnikov Hospital in Dnipro on April 19. Despite medical efforts, he was declared brain dead, undergoing a 20-hour surgery. He passed away on April 20 and was buried on April 22 in Vilnogirsk.
