Köksal Baloş, born on February 12, 1942, in Elazığ, is a prominent Turkish academician and dentist. He graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Dentistry in 1965 and became the first dentist to earn a doctorate in Turkey, introducing periodontology to the country. He later became an associate professor in periodontology at Ankara University in 1976, where he established the first Periodontology Department. Baloş served as the founder dean of Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry from 1982 to 1991 and was elected twice as a member of YÖK between 1995 and 1999. He has published 156 scientific works.
