Mohammad Safar Lafouti, known by the pen name Faryad, is an Iranian journalist and reporter born on May 14, 1981, in Chalus and Nowshahr, West Mazandaran. On December 13, 2011, he was arrested by security agents on charges of spreading false information intended to disrupt public opinion and propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was sentenced to 5 years of suspended prison and 5 years of prohibition from journalistic, media, and organizational activities. Human rights advocate Shirin Ebadi recognized this sentence as a violation of human rights concerning books, media, writers, and journalists.
