He is a multi-instrumentalist skilled in instruments such as the soprano lute, renaissance lute, theorbo, and many others. He is known for his work as a composer, music historian, folk song collector, and as an advocate for early music, particularly from the middle ages, renaissance, and baroque periods. Kecskés is the artistic director of the Kecskés Ensemble and was the first to perform authentic lute techniques in Hungary in the 20th century.
