Pavel Avdonin was a Soviet military figure and lieutenant general, born in 1921 in the village of Shaly, Mordovia. He served from 1940 to 2001, participating in World War II as commander of a mortar platoon and navigator in a heavy bomber. Post-war, he held significant positions in the Soviet Air Force, including Chief of Staff of various air divisions and units. He led the special nuclear administration from 1975 to 1987. Avdonin passed away in Moscow in 2001 and was buried at Troyekurovo Cemetery.
