Sir David Paul Brandes Goldberg is a British academic and social psychiatrist born in Hampstead, London in 1934. He trained at the Maudsley Hospital under Sir Aubrey Lewis and Sir Michael Shepherd. After nearly 25 years as a Professor at the University of Manchester and head of the Department of Psychiatry, he returned to Maudsley in 1993 to head research and education at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London. Known for his epidemiological research on psychiatric morbidity, he developed the Clinical Interview Schedule and General Health Questionnaire.
