Professor Quarraisha Abdool-Karim is a prominent South African epidemiologist known for her significant contributions to public health. She chairs the HPTN Ethics Working Group and is a founding member and director of the Generic Antiretroviral Procurement Project (GARPP). Currently, she serves as project director at the Vulindlela Rural Research Site. Quarraisha has received the Order of Mapungubwe, South Africa's highest civilian honor, and is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. She is also the first female recipient of the TWAS-Lenovo Science Prize. She is married to fellow epidemiologist Salim Abdool-Karim.
