Qusay al-Suhail is an Iraqi academic and politician born on April 2, 1965, in Basra. He served as Iraq's Minister of Higher Education in the government of Adil Abdul-Mahdi and was the first deputy speaker of the Iraqi Parliament from 2010 to 2014. Al-Suhail has earlier served as a member of the Iraqi Parliament and the National Assembly. He holds a Ph.D. in geology with a specialization in hydrogeology and is a professor in his field at the University of Basra.
