Richard Bruce Bury is an influential American conservationist, herpetologist, and natural historian, known for his pioneering work in herpetofauna studies. He was the first herpetologist hired by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1972, and he has contributed significantly to understanding amphibian declines alongside his colleagues. Bury received the 2009 Henry S. Fitch Award from the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists and is a founding member of the journal Herpetological Conservation and Biology. His research focuses on conservation, ecology, and the impact of invasive species on reptile and amphibian populations.
